The Tipón shrine is small compared to the size of the nearby town center, but the building quality and excellence of technique as used in hydraulic, make the site an exceptional place. The waters that irrigate the terraces still circulate through the narrow and deep channels, a rarity in the Inca Empire. The waters may deserve this care because they originate from a puquio, a natural source close to the peaks of Patachusán, the powerful apu that closes the valley to the east and to which the Incas still bow their head before sucking their chicha. Waters were sacred and for some people there still are.
